Take That fans, this really could be your Greatest Day; not only can you go and relive the magic of the band’s plethora of hits in movie Greatest Days now, you can look forward to seeing the lads return to Scottish soil.
Reporting from the red (purple, in this case) carpet premiere, STV’s Laura Boyd asked if we could see the band in Scotland in any time soon.
Gary Barlow confirmed: “Next year, next year – it’s an exclusive. We will be there.”
The news is sure to delight hundreds of thousands of fans who have followed them from the 1990s right through to the present day, lapping up everything from their early hits like It Only Takes a Minute and Could it Be Magic right through to Hold up a Light and The Flood.
Indeed, it’s the band’s loyal fanbase that are celebrated in the Greatest Days film.
Based on the stage musical of the same name, the movie follows five friends who were obsessed with ‘the boys’ back in the day.
We see them reunited 25 years later, when one of the girls, Rachel, wins a competition to go and see the band in Athens.
As the girl gang get back together, older, but not necessarily wiser, the movie celebrates friendships and nostalgia, all set to the songs of Take That.
Scottish actress Nandi Hudson, who plays the young Zoe, said: “It celebrates female friendships. Those friendships you have in school.
“You’re all going down different paths but you’re all united by ‘the boys’, as it is in this film.”
Shot in part in Athens and also in England, comedian and actress Jayde Adams, who stars as Claire, admitted it wasn’t all glamour on set.
She said: “There was lots of rain. We were in Clitheroe, babes! Showbusiness ain’t glamorous!”
What the cast did have to keep them going on those damper days was Take That’s tracks, with director Coky Giedroyc explaining: “Every day we had Take That blaring from massive loudspeakers and it just kind of lifted the spirits. It raised our game every day.”
You can find out more about the movie and the casts’ favourite moments and songs from the film on What’s on Scotland, Friday at 7pm.
