Olly Murs: 'I can't wait to start my tour with party crowd in Glasgow'

Marry Me tour gets under way at the Hydro on April 21 and the Starstruck host is expecting 'the best crowd'.

Pop star Olly Murs says he can’t wait to start his new tour in Glasgow, as the city is renowned for bringing a party atmosphere.

Murs, who shot to fame on the X Factor in 2009, is about to embark on his seventh arena tour, entitled Marry Me.

And the opening night is at the OVO Hydro on the banks of the River Clyde on Friday, April 21.

“I can’t wait (to get to Scotland), it’s going to be fantastic,” Olly told What’s On Scotland.

“It’s such a great city, great people, just great everything, so what a great way to start the tour.”

“It isn’t just me saying it, genuinely, you guys are the best crowd, just the whole environment, the atmosphere, it’s a party, that’s what I want my tour to be like.

“Any performer, when you walk out into an audience, you want to feel there is something coming back and when you’re in Glasgow you just get this energy and this ‘right we’re here to party tonight’.”

It has been four years since Olly released new music and he confessed to feeling a bit anxious about the upcoming tour.

He said: “I am a bit nervous because this album meant so much to me but it’s the fact my fans, the media, everyone – I’ve always felt every arena tour I do is a bonus.”

There was a special moment for Starstruck host Olly while he produced his new album as the 38-year-old got engaged to is girlfriend Amelia Tank.

“I got engaged during that process (of recording the album) and that’s where the Marry Me song came from, that’s where the title came from the album – it kind of like cemented it all together and here it is, and it went to No. 1.

“The whole album, now that I’ve finished it, is definitely about Amelia.”

Olly and Amelia are due to get married in the summer and the pop star admits he’s been getting involved in planning the big day.

“I think every day, every week, it just gets that little bit closer, so we’re both getting a little more nervous but we just want everyone to have the best time,” he said.

“I didn’t think I would be as involved (in the planning), I thought I would be a very typical man and step aside and be like ‘oh, you do it darling, I’m easy with whatever’, but then knowing me as a person I’m really not like that – I like to be in the mix of it.

“So me and Amelia have really worked well together and agreed on everything pretty much.”
