US singer Macklemore has delighted Celtic fans after donning a personalised strip during a performance in New York.
A video of the Thrift Shop hitmaker has gone viral after he donned a Hoops top with his name on it for part of his set at Pier 17.
Mega fans Kate Deegan and Michael Brohan brought the specially-made jersey all the way from Ireland to the US and managed to get it to the singer.
Ms Deegan told STV News: “Before the concert started, we went up to one of the staff and asked if it was possible to get the Jersey handed to Macklemore.
“We explained that we had travelled over from Ireland, especially for the gig and we had a Glasgow Celtic jersey made especially for him.
“The lady said she didn’t know how to get it to him but introduced us to a lady who was looking after the VIPs. We explained the story to her again and she said she would get it to his manager”.
The couple were unsure as to whether the shirt would make it to Macklemore, real name Benjamin Hammond Haggerty.
However, they were overjoyed when the star came out wearing the shirt for the final two songs of the set.
“It was just so surreal, and he looked so good in it too!” Ms Deegan told STV News.
Ms Deegan said she felt “as high as the Empire State Building” in the aftermath of the exciting moment.
Speaking about the show, Ms Deegan said: “The crowd at it were all so lovely and so into it. When Macklemore came crowd surfing at the end for Can’t Hold Us, I ended up holding his shoe and holding him up”.
The excitement didn’t end there for the couple as they got to meet their favourite artist after the show.
Ms Deegan explained that on her way out she spoke to a member of security who asked them to wait to meet the man of the hour.
She said: “We waited, and the security guy said Macklemore had just gone into the shower but for us to wait around and he would come out to say hi.
“We had no problem waiting for that so, we got to say hi to him and explain we brought him the jersey”.
During the interaction Macklemore thanked the couple, calling the gesture “awesome” and “very sweet.”
