A popular K-Pop group who mistakenly wore vintage Rangers FC tops during a performance in Texas, after appearing to confuse them with a US baseball team, has announced a surprise meet up with fans at Ibrox.
Members of the pop band STAYC had intended to wear the jerseys of the Texas Rangers for a show in Dallas as part of their US tour last month.
But a wardrobe mix-up meant the singers took to the stage in shirts that had been cropped and paired with denim shorts and mini-skirts, once famously sported by Rangers’ players including Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup and Ally McCoist.
STAYC, an all-female South Korean pop band formed of Sumin, Sieun, Isa, Seeun, Yoon and J, rose to fame in 2020 with their debut album Star to a Young Culture – which is the group’s acronym.
The group, who have a huge fanbase in Korea and Japan, have just finished embarking on the US-leg of their Teenfresh world tour.
On Monday, the group announced on X, formerly Twitter, that they would be at a meet up in Scotland at Ibrox the same day at 6pm.
The group posted: “STAYC meet Rangers FC in Scotland.
“Today in Scotland STAYC is coming.
“Location: Outside the Edmiston House at Rangers FC
“Time: 6pm November 6 (GMT)
“Glasgow SWITH & Rangers FC fans Please come and enjoy.”
A Rangers FC spokesperson said: “Rangers are delighted to announce that K-pop band STAYC will be visiting Edmiston House later this afternoon so why not come along and see them!
“The Korean band became recognised amongst the Gers support for mistakenly wearing retro jerseys from the 1996-97 season at a recent show in Dallas, Texas.
“STAYC had intended to wear the jerseys of the Texas Rangers baseball team, who recently reached the World Series, for a show as part of their US tour.
“However pictures circulating on social media showed two members of the girl group wearing the home shirts fashioned into crop tops which trigged nostalgia for the Light Blues support with the strip being the one worn in the record equalling nine in a row title winning season.
“The band will be present from 6pm where there will be a meet and greet opportunity before they head south to appear at Wembley to perform alongside other K-pop stars for Korea on Stage in London on Wednesday night.”
