Two new thrillers in Ian Rankin’s long-running Rebus series have been confirmed, with the first due for release in autumn 2022.

Publishers Orion confirmed the news on Twitter on Friday morning, stating: “Some VERY exciting news to brighten up January… There’ll be a new Rebus thriller from the legendary @Beathhigh this autumn!”

Another book is expected in the future as part of a reported seven-figure deal to continue the series, which began back in 1987 with Knots and Crosses.

Scottish author Rankin released the 23rd installment in the Rebus series, A Song for the Dark Times, in October 2020.

This year’s release, which is currently unnamed, is available for pre-order.

The author, who has won several national and international awards, has recently been keeping himself busy as the writer for Channel 4 series Murder Island, which aired in October/November last year and was filmed on the Scottish island of Gigha.
