Disney+ has told subscribers they cannot share their account with those outside their household – or face being blocked from the streaming service.

It follows a similar crackdown on password sharing by streaming giant Netflix, who recently saw a surge in new members after introducing a similar policy.

Disney+ emailed subscribers on Sunday morning to state that unless permitted as part of their service plan, “you may not share your subscription outside your household”.

The company clarified that a “household” relates to the collection of devices associated with the “primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein”.

Disney+ continued that it may analyse accounts to see if they are complying with the policy, and added that violations of the agreement would result in access to the streaming service being limited or terminated.
