A woman has been sexually assaulted by a man who was staring and waving at her on board a train from Edinburgh.

The victim was on the 8.32pm service between the capital and Montrose when the attack took place on Friday, October 22.

She noticed that a man, who got on the train at Edinburgh Waverley, was sitting staring at her throughout the journey.

The man then started waving before moving to sit next to her where he tried to engage her conversation and started making sexual remarks towards her.

When she continued to ignore the remarks he then attacked and sexually assaulted her.

Officers from the British Transport Police are now investigating the incident and have released a description of the man they are looking to trace.

The suspect is described as a black male who is around 6ft tall with a medium build and a scar above his eyebrow.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a navy Moncler jacket, black jeans and blue and white trainers.

A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to assist their enquiries.

“Witnesses, or anyone with information, can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40.”
