A woman has died after being hit by a cyclist yards from the Scottish Parliament.

The 66-year-old pedestrian, who has not yet been named, was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in a critical condition on Tuesday following the incident on Horse Wynd.

However, she failed to recover from her injuries and passed away on Friday, Police Scotland said.

The force confirmed an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

The 20-year-old male cyclist was also taken to the hospital to be checked over and was later discharged.

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick, of Edinburgh’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman at what is a difficult time for them.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
