Walker stretchered off hill after suffering 'serious injury'

The casualty was given pain relief before being put on a stretcher and carried off the hill to be taken into an ambulance.

A walker had to be stretchered off a hill in Clackmannanshire after suffering a “serious injury”.

Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were called to assist in the Tillicoultry area of Ochil Hills on Sunday afternoon after a hiker suffered a serious leg injury and had to be rescued.

Volunteers including medics and a passing hill runner carried equipment, including a stretcher, up the hill after receiving a distress call.

The casualty was given pain relief before being put on the stretcher and carried off the hill to be taken into by ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for Ochils MRT said: “The team’s third callout of the weekend came in early this afternoon to assist a hill walker with a serious leg injury in the Tillicoultry area.

“A hasty team of medics and a team paramedic deployed to the hill to treat the casualties injuries while other team members deployed with our stretcher and other rescue equipment.

“The casualty was given pain relief then packaged in our stretcher and carried off the hill to the awaiting ambulance.

“They did exactly the right thing when finding themselves in need of assistance. They dialled 999, asked for police then Mountain Rescue.

“A special thank you to a passing hill runner who stopped to assist and helped us carry some of our equipment off the hill.

“As always we wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 3.50pm on Sunday, July 14 to attend an incident in Tillicoultry.

!One ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.”
