Three teenage girls had to be rescued after becoming stranded on rocks as the tide rose in Fife.

At around 9.08pm on Sunday, the Coastguard service received a call to St Andrews Harbour of three people trapped on rocks by the incoming tide.

The teenage trio had gotten into difficulty near the cathedral end of East Sands in the harbour.

The in-shore lifeboat Oor Lifesaver, as well as the all-weather lifeboat Elizabeth of Glamis were deployed by the RNLI Broughty Ferry base.

The girls, understood to be in their late teens, were rescued by the inshore lifeboat, taken to East Sands and placed into the care of the Coastguard team.

None of the teenagers were reported to be injured or required medical attention.
