Three people have been injured in a crash which left hours-long queues on a major road in Fife.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Standing Stane Road in Kirkcaldy at around 10.40am on Thursday.

They helped free a person trapped in one of the vehicles.

Three people were treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service following the incident.

Drivers reported long queues on the road, which runs between Kirkcaldy and Leven.

One took to social media, alerting other motorists the road was “mobbed”.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.40am on Thursday, October 20 to reports of a road traffic collision on Standing Stane Road, Windygates, Kirkcaldy involving two cars.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews assisted a casualty from one of the vehicles.

“Three casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
