Three men have been charged in connection with a serious assault in Edinburgh which saw armed police lock down a street after a victim was left with “serious injuries”.

Police were alerted to the alleged attack on the city’s Niddry Street at around 3.50am on Wednesday, June 8.

Armed response units joined emergency crews in securing the street before reopening the road several hours later.

A 31-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to serious injuries.

Three men, aged 32, 32 and 27 years old, have been arrested and charged in connection with the assault.

They are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 17.

A Police Scotland statement said: “Three men, aged 32, 32 and 27, have been arrested and charged in connection with the serious assault of a 31-year-old man on Niddry Street in Edinburgh, which was reported to police around 3.50am on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

“The 31-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment for serious injuries.

“The three men are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 8.”
