Three abandoned ferrets have been found in a taped up cardboard box by the side of a road in Edinburgh.

The Scottish SPCA said a young boy found the three female ferrets near Crewe Path on Monday.

After bringing the animals in for examination, the organisation said they appear to be in “good health” and are receiving care from staff at one of the Scottish SPCA animal rescue and rehoming centres.

The charity is now urging anyone who may recognise the ferrets to get in touch.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer, Rory said: “On Monday afternoon a young boy found three ferrets inside a taped up cardboard box, on the lane near Crewe Path.

“The ferrets are all female and appear to be in good health. They are now receiving care and attention from our staff at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“We would urge anyone unable to care for their pets to contact our confidential animal helpline for support and advice.

“If anyone recognises these ferrets or has any information surrounding their circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
