Two teenage boys were left with head injuries following an “unprovoked attack” while playing football in a West Lothian park.

The teens were playing with friends in Howden Park, Livingston, when they were assaulted at around 6pm on Saturday.

Police said a 16-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury, while a 15-year-old boy sustained a minor one. Both were taken to St John’s Hospital and released after treatment.

Investigating officers want to speak to a man who was with a group of men nearby at the time.

He is believed to be aged around 23, 5ft10, slim, and had short black hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and sunglasses.

Detective constable Lynn Myles said: “This appears to be an unprovoked attack on two teenage boys who were in the park enjoying the good weather and playing football.

“There were a lot of people on the park at the time and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.”
