A teenager has died in hospital after a “medical emergency” at a boarding school in East Lothian.
Emergency services were called to the Loretto School, in the Linkfield Road area of Musselburgh, after receiving a report of concern for a 17-year-old male on Tuesday, May 2.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A spokesperson for the school said the teen passed away following a “medical emergency”.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, police were called to a school in the Linkfield Road area of Musselburgh following concern for a 17-year-old male.
“He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died a short time later.
“At this time, there would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A spokesperson for Loretto School said: “Following a medical emergency last Tuesday evening at the school, paramedics were called to the school to treat a pupil. Sadly, he passed away a short time later in hospital.
“The school community is devastated and we are giving his family all the support we can. We have also been working with pupils and staff impacted by this tragic news and that is our focus for now.”
