Teen battling cancer records song with pop star Ella Henderson

The Ghost singer invited Paige Dougall to London and together they recorded the 17-year-old's song ‘I’m Going Through Hell’.

A teenage girl living with stage four cancer has achieved her dream of recording a song, thanks to one of the UK’s biggest pop stars.

After being introduced by STV News in June, Ella Henderson invited 17-year-old Paige Dougall, from Kirkcaldy, down to London and together they recorded Paige’s song ‘I’m Going Through Hell’.

Paige wrote the song two years ago when she was first diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma.

“We’re recording my song professionally, adding piano to it and all sorts of things!” said Paige.

“I’m really excited. When I heard it for the first time I was a little bit emotional about it, I’m not going to lie.

“It’s a song that’s not just for me, it’s a song for everyone that’s going through what I’m going through.”

Paige sings on the track and Ella, who is preparing to release her new album, plays piano and provides accompanying vocals.

“Paige is one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met,” said Ella.

“And she makes me laugh – you’ve got to make me laugh in order to be invited into my circle.

“She’s super, super talented and had never recorded a song before and that’s on her bucket list.

“So I thought: ‘Let’s make it happen’’.

Paige travelled down to London for a “dream” trip to London with her mum, Michelle Falconer.

They were treated to a VIP stay at the Mondrian Hotel in Shoreditch, and Avanti West Coast threw a party on the train for Paige, who turned 17 last week.

“I’m so proud of her”, said Michelle.

“Do you know what? If love could cure her alone then she’d be cured a million times over because she’s just amazing.

“Regardless of everything that keeps getting thrown in her way, and regardless of how hard it is, and I see her struggling, she keeps fighting and she keeps smiling and just keeps going.

“She said to me, the cancer’s winning, and I said to her ‘it’s not’, because it’s not stripped you of who you are.

“So maybe your looks, skin, your body’s changed and things like that, but you’re still you. And that’s never been taken away from her.”

The recording took place at Rudimental’s studio in East London.

“I’m so happy I’ve been able to do this because this is all I’ve wanted to do” said Paige.

Despite reaching her goal Paige told us this wasn’t just for her, she hopes her song will be a ray of hope for every child living with cancer.

‘I’m Going Through Hell’ will be released later this week.
