A man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries following an early hours attack in Edinburgh city centre.

The 22-year-old required treatment at the capital’s Royal Infirmary following the incident at the junction of South Bridge and the High Street on May 19 this year.

He was reportedly attacked shortly after 3.45am before emergency crews arrived to administer initial treatment.

Investigators have now released an image of a man they want to trace as part of their probe into the incident and have asked anyone with information on the individual or his whereabouts to come forward as soon as possible.

He is described as being white, aged between 18 and 25 and around 5ft 10in in height with a slim build and shaved brown hair.

The man was said to be wearing a dark grey jacket, a grey Adidas hoody, grey jogging bottoms and black trainers at the time of the incident.

Detective constable Paul Henderson, of Edinburgh CID, said: “I would urge the man depicted in the images, or anyone who has information relating to him or to the incident, to contact police as soon as possible. 

“Members of the public can contact Police Scotland via the 101 quoting reference number 0551 of Thursday, May 19, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
