Police probe ‘wilful’ fires after six parked cars set alight at HMP Addiewell prison in West Lothian STV News

An investigation has been launched after six parked cars at a West Lothian prison were set alight on Saturday night in an incident police are treating as “wilful”.

Police were called to HMP Addiewell at around 10.15pm on January 7 after receiving reports of six cars on fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fires and no one was injured as a result.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and the fires are being treated as wilful, police said.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received reports of six cars on fire in the car park at HMP Addiewell in West Lothian around 10.15pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

“The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no-one was injured.

“The fires are being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
