Hunt for thief who threatened 'shocked' staff before stealing cash

Police are keen to trace a man described as 6ft 2in tall, of slim build, with a Scottish accent.

A hunt is under way for a man who threatened staff at a corner shop in Edinburgh before making off with hundreds of pounds.

At around 4.05pm on Saturday, April 8, a man entered Scotmid in the Morvenside area, threatening staff and demanding money.

He left with a three-figure sum, and staff members were shocked but unhurt.

Police are keen to trace a man described as 6ft 2in tall, of slim build, with a Scottish accent.

He was wearing a black scarf or face mask, light blue hooded rain jacket, dark blue jogging bottoms and black trainers, and seen running off towards the Westburn area.

Detective Constable Peter Lyons of CID in Edinburgh said: “Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 2383 of Saturday, April 8, 2023.”
