Mountain biker airlifted to hospital after being 'badly injured'

A mountain biker had to be airlifted to hospital after being “badly injured” in a forest in the Borders.

Volunteers from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Glentress Forest near Peebles on Sunday afternoon to assist a mountain biker who had been injured.

The Scottish Ambulance Service and a HM Coastguard helicopter were sent to the scene near the Borders around 2pm after a man fell off his bike.

The biker was airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in a rescue helicopter.

Tweed Valley MRT posted on Facebook: “Whilst on a regular training day nearby the team were called out the Glentress this afternoon (Sunday) to assist a badly injured mountain biker.

“Working closely with colleagues from Scottish Ambulance Service, the team evacuated the casualty to the Coastguard R199 helicopter that had been requested, and had arrived on scene.

“R199 then airlifted the casualty to hospital. We wish the casualty all the best in their recovery.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “We were tasked to assist Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team and the Scottish Ambulance Service with a male who had fallen from a bike at Glentress on July 21 at around 2pm.

“The casualty was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by an HM Coastguard helicopter.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
