A man has been jailed for six years for trying to murder a baby.
Lukasz Chomiczewski, 26, carried out a “senseless attack” on the one-year-old girl in Edinburgh in August.
He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, but was found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in February.
Chomiczewski was sentenced on Friday morning.
Detective chief inspector Iain Ramsay, of Edinburgh’s public protection unit, said: “This was a senseless attack on a defenceless child, resulting in serious injury.
“Chomiczewsk was in a position of care for the girl and was meant to protect her, instead he subjected her to a terrifying ordeal, for which there is no justification.”
