A 59-year-old man who was found dead having suffered serious injuries near an Edinburgh school on Tuesday has been named as police confirm another has been charged in connection.
Emergency services were called to reports of an injured man in the Primrose Street area near Leith Academy at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 6.
Local man, Garry O’Neill, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, a 54-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death and police have confirmed that he has now been charged.
He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, June 8.
Detective inspector Kevin Tait said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr O’Neill at what is a very difficult time for them and they are being provided with support by specialist officers.
“I would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the wider public. Thank you to those who assisted with our enquiries.”
In a statement, Mr O’Neill’s family said: “He was a much loved dad and we ask for privacy at this difficult time.”
