Man charged after serious assault during bus stop argument

The incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday at the number 30 bus stop on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

A man has been charged following a serious assault during an argument at a bus stop in Edinburgh.

Police were called to the number 30 bus stop on Princes Street, around midnight on Tuesday, following reports of a man being seriously injured.

Further investigation found that the 47-year-old man had tried to intervene in an argument involving a man and woman.

The man was taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

A police spokesperson said: “A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault which occurred on Princes Street, Edinburgh, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

“He is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, July 8, 2024, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
