A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a man died following an attack in Edinburgh.

Liam Maloney, 30, was seriously injured as a result of the assault on Niddrie Marischal Road that police believe to have been targeted.

Mr Maloney was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident, which took place at around 8pm on Thursday, May 5.

However, medical staff were unable to save him, with Mr Maloney dying in hospital two days later.

Police said that his death was being treated as murder, as they viewed CCTV footage from the area.

The 48-year-old man is now expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, March 10,

Detective Inspector Scott Roxburgh, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “We’d like to thank the public for their assistance with this investigation.

“There will remain a police presence in the area over the coming days and we continue to appeal for anyone with further information to please come forward.
