A motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle crash in the Borders.

The 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to reports of a collision between a car and a motorbike on the A72, near Innerleithen, at around 3.50pm on Saturday.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash, while enquiries remain ongoing.

The crash resulted in the road being closed in both directions for about six hours, but it has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 3.50pm on Saturday, April 23, following reports of a collision between a car and a motorbike on the A72 near Innerleithen.

“Emergency services attended and a 60-year-old man, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

“The road reopened after a six-hour closure.”
