A graveyard in Edinburgh has been taped off and a man arrested after an alleged rape attack.

Police were called to reports of the attack at around 3.55am on Friday, September 1, at St Cuthberts Kirkyard on Lothian Road.

Images from the scene show police tape and officers still present at the graveyard later on Friday morning.

A 37-year-old man was arrested, and Police Scotland said their inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We received a report of a serious sexual assault within a churchyard on Lothian Road, Edinburgh, around 3.55am on Friday, September 1, 2023.

“A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing”
