Man in court over killing of 'loving father and husband' in bus stop incident

A man has appeared in court following the death of a “loving father and husband” in Edinburgh.

Nashir Ahmed died in hospital five days after an incident at a bus stop on Ferry Road on Sunday, March 10.

The 65-year-old’s family said they are “devastated” by his death and that he would be “greatly missed” by Edinburgh’s Bangladeshi community.

Daniel Springer appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday charged with assault to severe injury and culpable homicide.

The 38-year-old, of no fixed address, made no plea and was remanded in custody pending further examination.

He is due to appear again within the next eight days.

A 48-year-old man who was also at the bus stop was also taken to hospital with serious leg and facial injuries.
