Major road and bridges reopen after high wind closures

A major road has reopened to traffic following a closure to fierce winds that overturned two lorries.

A stretch of the A1 in East Lothian was closed to all vehicles throughout Tuesday between Haddington and Thistly Cross due to high winds on the route.

Shortly after midday, a lorry tipped over on the A1 southbound at the Belhaven junction.

At around 12.20pm, another lorry then overturned at the Thorntonloch Beach junction.

Police reported that no one was hurt in the incident.

Traffic Scotland stated that some drivers were ignoring the safety advice and restrictions put in place during the yellow weather warning.

Following a drop in wind speeds, the road was reopened to all traffic – including high-sided vehicles – on Wednesday morning.

The Forth Road Bridge, which was also shut to double-decker buses, motorbikes, cyclists and pedestrians due to the bad weather, has also been reopened.

The Tay Road Bridge has also been cleared for traffic.
