Four teenagers have been charged in connection with the violent assault of a girl aboard a bus in East Lothian.

One 13-year-old and three 14-year-olds schoolgirls have been reported to the children’s panel over the alleged attack on a number 30 Lothian Bus service in Musselburgh.

Police launched an investigation into the reported assault after footage began circulating on social media.

The video appears to show the victim, also a teenager, surrounded by a group of other youths before they began striking and kicking her in the head during the prolonged incident on Friday, May 27.

Officers have now confirmed charges against four youths in connection.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a teenager having been assaulted on a bus in Musselburgh on Friday, May 27.

“Four female youths, three aged 14 and one aged 13 have been charged in connection.

“A report will be sent to the Children’s Reporter.”
