A baronial mansion complete with tower and battlements has been put on the market for offers over £4.2m.
Once the home of former Scottish judge, College of Justice senator and MP John Dickson, the sprawling Hartree House and Estate dates back to the 14th century and retains elements of the original castle which stood on the site.
The almost 20,000 sq ft mansion in Biggar near the Borders features a tower and battlements which were in place when John Dickson, born in 1600, purchased the estate in 1633.
The 22-acre land set next to lakes and woodlands is on sale via property agents Savils for offers over £4.2m.
The C-listed property has 14 bedrooms, six bathrooms and eight lounge and living areas.
Previously used as a wedding venue, a reading room, lift and orangery were added to the property by the previous owners over the past decade.
Property agent Jessica Gwyn said: “There is so much that is impressive about Hartree House – the combination of historic character and grounds with beautiful modern refurbishments is remarkable.”
