The family of a woman missing from Edinburgh since new year has appealed for help in finding her.

Alice Byrne, 28, was last seen at around 2am on New Year’s Day on Bath Street in Portobello.

Her twin brother told the PA news agency that his sister was planning on going to a beach party at Portobello, but has not been seen since.

Ms Byrne, described as ‘vulnerable’ by a friend, was last seen wearing a long black T-shirt, black jeans and an orange/mustard hoodie.

Her family say they believe she is in Edinburgh or East Lothian, but indicated that she could be elsewhere.

In a missing persons appeal posted by her family and friends, anyone with information is asked to contact 07510 062 206 and 07864 797 730, as well as the police numbers on 101 and 999.

In a Facebook post, her brother wrote: “My sister Alice has been missing since new years day. Last seen around 2am.

“We are all really worried and ask if anyone has seen her or spoken to her please contact the police or one of the numbers in the picture.

“We believe she is in Edinburgh or East Lothian potentially but she could be anywhere. Please share this on all your social media accounts. Thank you.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Searches and enquiries are ongoing to trace the 28-year-old woman who was reported missing from Edinburgh on January 2.

“Anyone with information should contact officers through 101 with reference 0647 of January 2.”
