A man has died after being struck by a car on a major road in Edinburgh.
The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision with a silver Toyota Auris on Calder Road at around 7am on Tuesday morning.
Police, fire and ambulance crews remained on the scene for more than five hours while the road was closed as initial investigations took place.
The driver of the car was uninjured.
Officers are now asking any fellow motorists and pedestrians to come forward if they witnessed the incident and share information with investigators.
Sergeant Barry Sommerville said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are working to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which has not yet been passed to police to get in touch.
“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.
“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0497 of July 4.”
