A man has been arrested after a woman was rushed to hospital following a crash between a pedestrian and a car in Edinburgh.

Police cordoned off a large area in the Balgreen area of the capital following the incident on Stevenson Road, near the junction with Whitson Terrace on Saturday afternoon.

Ambulance crews responded to the incident, with the woman receiving care at the scene prior to being transferred to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

A man was later arrested in connection with the incident.

The road remains closed while an initial investigation continues.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30pm on Saturday, August 26, officers were made aware of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle in Stevenson Drive, Edinburgh.

“The female pedestrian was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

“A man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.

“The road remains closed and enquiries are ongoing.”
