Dead minke whale washes up in North Berwick as locals urged to keep their distance East Lothian Council

People in East Lothian are being urged to keep their distance from the carcass of a minke whale which has been drifting in the area since Thursday.

East Lothian Council advised that it had been alerted to the dead whale near east beach in North Berwick and countryside rangers had been made aware and were monitoring its movements.

Arrangements are now in place to remove it on Friday evening.

In the meantime, locals have been urged “not to get too close” and to keep dogs away as it is “quite advanced in its decay”.

The Scottish Seabird Centre which is located near the beach said the carcass had been reported to the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme.
