A signalling fault at Edinburgh Waverley station caused commuter chaos for rail passengers on Wednesday.

The disruption, flagged by ScotRail at around 9am on Wednesday, was resolved by 10am by Network Rail engineers.

All trains between Edinburgh and Cowdenbeath, Glenrothes, Dunblane, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Bathgate, Glasgow Central and Queen Street, Milngavie, and Helensburgh Central were affected.

The fault lay between the Scottish capital’s Waverley and Haymarket stations, ScotRail said.

Commuters are advised to check their journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner, and may be entitled to compensation if they experienced a delay.
