The bomb squard is carrying out a controlled explosion of “potentially hazardous” items in Dunfermline.
Emergency services were called to the city’s Elgin Street on Thursday afternoon and closed the road.
On Friday, police said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit would shortly be carrying out the explosion at around 2pm.
The material found is described as “historic” and needs to be “disposed of” on location.
People have been told to avoid the surrounding area and local residents were asked to close their doors and windows as a precaution.
“EOD will shortly be carrying out a controlled explosion in Elgin Street, Dunfermline, after potentially hazardous material was found in containers within a property yesterday,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said.
“The items are historic and require to be disposed of safely on site.”
