A baby seal found on an Edinburgh beach with severe dog bite injuries, including a broken jaw, has been put down.
The Scottish SPCA announced the incident on social media on Monday afternoon, warning dog owners to “be vigilant”.
The pup was discovered at Newhaven Harbour in the capital over the weekend, a busy location often frequented by seal pups.
“We would like to appeal to dog owners to be vigilant when walking their dogs in the area as the harbour is a busy location where seal pups are commonly found,” the animal welfare charity wrote.
“If you come across a seal while walking your dog please put your dog on the lead and keep your distance from the animal.
“If you have concerns about the seal please call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
