A major road was closed for several hours after a bomb disposal team after “suspect materials” were found within a property near the road.

At around 11pm on Tuesday, May 9, police were called to a report of a disturbance at a property next to the A7 south of Linhope, between Langholm and Hawick.

A 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with the disturbance and police said that enquiries are ongoing.

As a precaution, a cordon was put in place and the A7 was closed between Langholm and Hawick with people advised at this time to avoid the area and heed diversions.

At 2.15pm on Wednesday police said that the A7 between Langholm and Hawick had been reopened.

Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing, however police advised that there is no risk to the public.
