A man is in critical condition after being hit by a double-decker bus as he crossed a road in Glasgow.

The 34-year-old was struck by the bus as he stepped off a footpath and onto Lochend Road just after midnight on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition.

No one else was injured in connection with the incident, police said.

Sergeant Andy Shearer of the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Glasgow said: "Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision to get in touch."
