A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with offensive online comments aimed at Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths' children.

Police launched an investigation after the alleged remarks at the weekend aimed at the four children of Griffiths.

He was targeted on Twitter after Celtic's Scottish Cup victory against East Kilbride on Sunday. It prompted the Scotland striker to make a statement to say he would quit Twitter.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that a teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with alleged offensive comments made online."
