A man was taken to hospital after falling from a window and plunging 35ft through scaffolding at a block of flats.

The 44-year-old man suffered serious head and back injuries after the fall from a second floor flat in Greenock, Inverclyde on Monday evening.

Emergency services attended the scene in the town's Drumfrochar Road at around 6.20pm. It is understood the incident was an accident and he fell after opening the window.

He was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 6.20pm on Monday a 44-year-old man sustained head and back injuries when he fell from the window of flats in Drumfrochar Road, Greenock.

"He was taken to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment to his injuries. Following an investigation no criminality was established."

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We attended an incident at Drumfrochar Road at about 6.15pm.

"We sent one Scottish Ambulance resource and contacted the fire service for assistance and transported one middle-aged male to hospital. I can confirm he has fallen from height."
