Man’s body found on Skye in year-long search sparks ‘unexplained’ death probe Police Scotland

A body has been found in the search for a man who disappeared on Skye last year.

Police confirmed the discovery in a “wooded area” west of Portree on Tuesday afternoon.

Formal identification of the body has not taken place but police have informed the family of Harry MacDonald, 59, who was reported missing in the area in September 2022.

Police said the death is being treated as “unexplained” and an investigation is under way.

Officers previously said they were growing “increasingly concerned” for the safety of Mr Macdonald, who said he was going for a walk before leaving his dog with a family member.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland: “Around 3pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, a body was found in a wooded area, west of Portree on Skye.

“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Harry MacDonald, reported missing in the area in September 2022, has been informed.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained pending further enquiries. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
