Waitrose has issued an urgent recall notice on pesto after salmonella was found in the product.

The Food Standards Agency issued a ‘do not eat’ warning via the upmarket retailer for its No1 Pesto alla Genovese product.

Waitrose said the recall notice is due to the presence of salmonella being found in the 145g pack size.

All products with a use by date of September 26, 2024 are to be packaged up and returned to any branch for a full refund.

Symptoms caused by salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”
