Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a baby boy.

The baby was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital in an “unresponsive” state and died there on July 27, Lancashire Police said.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing and allowing the death of a child and child neglect.

Both men are from Blackpool and have since been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

Police were called to the hospital on July 27 at 7.15pm but “very sadly, the baby boy was pronounced deceased a short time later”, a force spokesman said.

He added: “An investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the baby boy’s death.

“A Home Office post mortem examination has taken place.

“The cause of the baby’s death is awaiting further investigation.”
