Listen to the moment the Titan submersible in new audio released by the US Coast Guard
New audio released by the US Coast Guard details the final moments from the Titan submersible before it tragically imploded, killing five people during a dive to the Titanic wreck.
An Oceanic acoustic recorder – located 900 miles away from the implosion site – picked up a sound similar to a thunderclap, before cutting to silence.
In a statement, the Coast Guard said the audio “records the suspected acoustic signature of the Titan submersible implosion” the day the submarine went missing.
Following the incident debates around the future of privatised deep-sea travel were raised after it was revelated the creators of the Ocengate submarine refused to submit the design for independent safety checks.
Titan operator Stockton Rush who co-founded OceanGate, was among those killed in the implosion, as well as two members of a prominent Pakistani family, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood; British adventurer Hamish Harding; and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
Oceangate, the company that owned the submarine later suspended it’s operations in July 2023.
The audio recording is just one of the pieces of evidence into the Coast Guard investigation into the Titan.
It is expected more information about the implosion will be released as the investigation remains ongoing and a final report into the incident is expected to be released.
