Tax on vapes to be introduced in 2026, chancellor confirms

It means a small bottle of vape juice which costs as little as £1 will instead cost £3.20 - a 220% increase in price.

A tax on vapes will be introduced in the UK in 2026, the chancellor has confirmed.

Rachel Reeves made the announcement in the House of Commons on Wednesday while delivering the Autumn Budget.

A flat duty rate of £2.20 per 10ml of liquid will come into force on October 1, 2026.

It means a small bottle of vape juice which costs as little as £1 will instead cost £3.20 – a 220% increase in price.

The Government said the new duty was to “discourage non-smokers and young people from taking up vaping”.

A one-off tobacco duty rise will also be introduced in a bid to encourage vapers to chose refillable products over cigarettes.

The Chancellor also announced draught duty on alcoholic drinks will fall by 1.7%, meaning “a penny off a pint in the pub”.
