The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs, Donald Trump made history, while Taylor Swift was loudly booed at this year’s Super Bowl.
The Eagles denied the Chiefs and Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, by winning a third Super Bowl, beating them 40-22 on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Meanwhile, President Trump made history as the first sitting US President to attend the major sporting event.
Before kickoff, Mr Trump walked onto the field to meet the families of victims of the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans, as well as police and emergency personnel.
Fourteen people were killed and dozens more injured when US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pick-up truck into crowds in Bourbon Street early on January 1. He was later shot dead by police.
Mr Trump entered the stadium to a mix of cheers and boos and watched Super Bowl 59 from a private box with his children Ivanka and Eric, along with several politicians who travelled with him on Air Force One to New Orleans.
First Lady Melania Trump was not present.
Grammy winner Swift, who was at the Bowl to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, was booed by Eagles fans when she appeared on the jumbotron.
Seated with rapper Ice Spice and friend Ashley Avignone, the Shake It Off singer looked surprised but laughed off the reaction.
Later, Trump fired shots at Swift on Truth Social, saying: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
Swift had publicly endorsed Trump’s rival, Kamala Harris, during the 2024 presidential election.
Celebrities in the stands included Jay-Z, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, and Hollywood stars Adam Sandler, Paul Rudd, and Kevin Costner.
Along with the Eagles, rapper Kendrick Lamar was another winner at the Super Bowl, dazzling viewers with his halftime show.
He made history as the first solo hip-hop artist to headline the coveted slot.
Actor Samuel L Jackson was dressed as Uncle Sam and introduced Lamar on stage.
Lamar’s dancers wore red, white, and blue, forming a divided American flag during his performance.
Jackson’s Uncle Sam criticised Lamar and the dancers as “too loud, too reckless, too ghetto,” and reminded the Pulitzer Prize winner to “play the game”.
Lamar then performed hits like ‘Humble’, ‘DNA’, ‘Euphoria’, and ‘Man at the Garden’, with singer SZA joining him on stage.
He then teased a performance of his diss track ‘Not Like Us’ aimed at rapper Drake, saying “I wanna play their favourite song but you know they love to sue,” referencing Drake’s current lawsuits surrounding the song.
Drake is currently suing Universal Music Group for defamation and harassment due to its release of ‘Not Like Us’ last year.
Despite the tension, Lamar performed the diss song, and tennis legend Serena Williams made a surprise appearance, dancing along to it.
Williams and Drake dated around 2011 before breaking up. In 2022, Drake released a diss track aimed at Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian.
Millions of viewers also saw some outlandish Super Bowl adverts.
In one, football star David Beckham and actor Matt Damon played long-lost twins who bonded over a beer.
Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal re-enacted their famous deli scene from When Harry Met Sally, but this time Sally was excited about mayonnaise.
British singer Seal transformed into an actual seal, who was sad he couldn’t hold a drink with his flippers.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and comedian Pete Davidson teamed up for a cookware ad, while The Muppets searched for accommodations with a booking site.
The most outlandish advert came from Kanye West, who claimed he had to film the ad on his mobile phone after spending his entire Super Bowl ad budget on his “new teeth.”
“I spent all the money for the commercial on these new teeth,” West said, smiling at the camera in sunglasses. “So, once again, I had to shoot it on the iPhone.”
