Scots passengers are being warned of potential disruption after Barcelona Airport was battered by storms.

British Airways, EasyJet and Ryanair are among the airlines affected with flights cancelled and delayed on Monday.

Aena, which owns and operates Barcelona airport, said 17 inbound flights were diverted to alternative airports.

Around 50 departures were said to have been cancelled or severely delayed with flights from London and Manchester affected.

Ryanair flight FR6274 from Edinburgh to Barcelona is due to take off at 3.45pm on Monday as scheduled, according to flight data.

Images on social media showed water had entered some parts of the airport, including the public area of Terminal 1.

The severe weather has also led to rail services being suspended and motorways being flooded.

EasyJet issued a message to passengers which stated: “We have been advised that customers are receiving information to warn against all but essential travel to and from Barcelona due to severe weather conditions.

“We are planning on operating our flights as normal, although delays are to be expected.”

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Spain on Monday, Nov 4 should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating to/from Spain on Monday.”
