Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.

The French giants snapped up the 34-year-old forward after his contract at Barcelona came to an end and financial restrictions meant they were unable to re-register him.

Messi scored 672 competitive goals for Barca, since making his first team debut as a 16-year-old in 2003, which remains a world record amount for any player at one club.

He also won 34 major trophies at the Nou Camp including four Champions Leagues and ten La Liga titles.

During that time he has also been named World Player of The Year a record six times and won six golden boot awards for being the top goal-scorer in Europe.

At Paris he will again team up with former strike partner, and the world’s most expensive player, Neymar.

PSG, who have also signed former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Italian Euro 2020 winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the summer, confirmed the signing on their official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Barcelona, who Messi joined at 13-years-old, announced last week they were unable to fulfil the terms of a new contract due to financial difficulties.

The Argentina captain, who guided his country to the Copa America last month, then had an emotional farewell to the Catalan club at a press conference.

His two-year-contract in the French capital is believed to be worth around Ā£29.5m a year.
