Prince George pictured on first day at Eton College

Prince George was accompanied by his mother and father, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as he met the head master of Eton College on his first day of school

Prince George is expected to begin his first day at Eton College on Tuesday, the next phase of the future King’s education.

George, 13, whose last major public appearance was at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with his family, is following in the footsteps of his father the Prince of Wales and uncle, the Duke of Sussex, who both attended the public school.

He was accompanied by his father, and his mother, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as he shook hands with the head master of Eton College, Simon Henderson.

The young prince previously attended Lambrook School, the private prep school in Berkshire, also attended by his siblings Princess Charlotte, 11, and eight-year-old Prince Louis.

William and his wife Kate were reportedly spotted touring Eton with their eldest son in 2023, fueling speculation the school was high on their list of possible places to send George.

The press were allowed to record William’s first day at Eton with his parents Charles and Diana, the then-Prince and Princess of Wales, and brother Harry, and the family were pictured as the new pupil signed in on September 6 1995.

Eton College is one of the UK’s most prestigious schools, and its alumni include many former prime ministers, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Its roll call of famous past pupils also includes actors Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, writers George Orwell and Ian Fleming, and adventurer Bear Grylls.

Admission is rigorous, with the boys going through stringent tests, and parents pay an annual fee of £63,298 for a school whose name is likely to be more influential than the academic qualifications gained by pupils.

The King went to Gordonstoun, a school in the Scottish Highlands attended by his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, and he told biographer Jonathan Dimbleby that his time there was “a prison sentence” – but it instilled self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
